Part 2: SEO information in a nutshell

Posted by Francois Muscat On June - 23 - 2010

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) methods are used to increase a website’s visibility on the search engine result pages (SERP).  SEO comprises of two aspects namely on page SEO and off page SEO.  On page Search Engine Optimization contains all the elements regarding the physical optimization of your website while off page Search Engine Optimization is the means on how to get targeted traffic to your website.

This the second part in a series where I will be explaining on and off page SEO in a nutshell.  I don’t go into great depth explaining these, but just a quick run down of what on and off page SEO entails. You can also find the first part of this series here: Part 1: SEO information in a nutshell.

When designing / developing a new website, all of these aspects needs to be taken into consideration.  Every single part plays a vital role and it all adds up to increase your website visibility on the internet.

Off Page SEO

Off Page SEO is exactly what it means. Search Engine Optimization not only requires you to optimize your website and be finished with it. It is a long process and if done correctly, your web site shall reap the rewards.

Off Page SEO techniques

  • Building of links from other trusted websites to your website.  Link building is most likely the most important aspect of SEO;
  • Social bookmarking;
  • Publishing of press releases;
  • Publishing of articles;
  • Forum and blog posts.   When commenting on forums and blogs, your name is usually converted to a link.  That means for every comment you make, it is a successful backlink to your website.  Most blogs and forums links count as “nofollow” links but there still is a couple where you can benefit from having links on them.  I wrote and article regarding dofollow and nofollow links.

Well this was just a quick list regarding information from the SEO world.  The lists can go on forever but this is a nice break down of what on page and off page SEO entails.
